Shrimp Creole

Parades have begun and you need to get some good food before heading out and making it through the crowds and several parades. Why not make Mulate’s Shrimp Creole to get the strength you need for a good day on the parade route?

What You Need

  • 4 tbsp. butter

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 1 small bell pepper, diced

  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped

  • 1 1/2 cups water

  • 8-oz. can tomato sauce

  • 1/2 tsp. thyme

  • 1/2 tsp. dried sweet basil

  • 1 tsp. salt

  • 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper

  • 1 lb. medium shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 2 cups cooked white rice

How It’s Done

Shrimp CreoleIn a medium saucepot, melt the butter and saute the onion, bell pepper, and garlic for about 10 minutes. Stir in water, tomato sauce, and dry seasonings. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add shrimp, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes stirring occasionally. Serve over rice. This recipe serves about four people.
